Installation, Construction of the Heating film

Installation of the Heating film

  1. Check the electric power supply of the building. Make sure the capacity available to you is enough to operate the infrared heating.
  2. Check the voltage in the area of installation.
  3. Clean the area. You will need a surface free from gravel, dust and debris.
  4. In order to properly eliminate moisture and for proper insulation, cover the whole surface of the flooring with a waterproof insulation material. (e.g. XPS Isofoam)
  5. Fix the separate parts of the insulation material to each other with adhesive tape.
  6. Decide on the direction of the Tokyo Solar Infrared Heat Film, taking maximum installation length of the heat film in one direction into consideration.
  7. The maximum installation length of the heating film in one straight line:

Infrared heating film with the width of 50 cm: a length of 12-13 metres
Infrared heating film with the width of 80 cm: a length of 7-8 metres
Infrared heat film with the width of 100 cm: a length of 5-6 metres
    • Plan the position of the infrared heat film on paper before you cut to size. If the infrared heat film needs to be cut, do it along the dotted line.
    • Make sure the infrared heat film isn't longer in a straight line than the maximum installation length anywhere. Make sure the individual infrared heat films don't overlap anywhere and there is a distance of about 1-3cm between them.
    • Connect the electric wires to the outlets of the infrared heat film. Connect the individual infrared film pieces in a parallel position.
    • To eliminate moisture and for proper insulation, use insulating tape with bitumen to insulate the connection points.
    • Check the electric connection points and the resistance of the film fields before connecting the thermostat.
    • Do a test heat-up before you cover the infrared heating.
    • Fix the infrared heat films with adhesive tape so they can't move later on.
    • Cover the whole surface with protective film and lay the covering of the surface such as laminated floor, parquet, PVC flooring etc…

Important Warning About the Installation of the Heating film

    • Clean the floor carefully before starting installation.
    • Make sure the surface is moisture-proof and vapour free.
    • Do not use an insulation material covered with a conductive material.
    • Pay attention that the infrared heat film doesn't get damaged during installation. In the case of damage, insulate it extensively.
    • Check the electric grid of the building and its available capacity before installation.
    • Calculate electric consumption using the metre marks on the foil. Make sure the electric capacity of the thermostat is not higher than 75-80%.
    • Make sure the points of connection and the separate parts are extensively insulated.
    • Do not put heavy objects (piano, refrigerator) on the infrared heating because it can lead to overheating the film.

Installation and Construction of the Heating Mat

Very easy to install the heating mat because it needs only 36mm gap
Heating mat is very thin: 36mm
The installation of the heating mat is very simple and quick.
Installation of the heating mat is very simple

The heating mat can be installed quickly and easily.

    1. Measurement of the area to be heated.
Measure the floorspace of the room before installing the electric underfloor heating. Make a sketch, not forgetting to include the fixed sanitary ware and furniture that touches the floor. (Bathtub, shower drain, toilet, sink etc.) Subtract the size of these from the floorspace. This is essential because the electric heating mat cannot be cut. Its size has to be determined so it's a little smaller than the available area.

    2. Check the mains voltage.
Make sure your electric grid has a voltage of 230V.

    3. Plan the position of the heating mat.
Determine what the optimal heating mat pieces are and make a plan that shows the coverage planned. Also determine the location for the thermostat on the wall - above the heated surface where the 2.5metre wire of the heating mat and the 2 metre floor-temperature sensor wire reach.

    4. Choose the size of heating mat needed.
Subtract the areas of the fixed sanitary ware, equipment and furniture from the floorspace area to be heated and choose a little smaller heating mat. If there'll be more than one heating mat installed and you will use the same thermostat, you should:
    – Make sure the thermostat can control the aggregate power of the heating mats.
    – If possible, install the heating mats so their electric wires are close to the thermostat.

    5. Copy the layout drawing onto the floor.
Take the sketch you made before and draw it on the floor. Don't forget the exact position of the equipment to be put in later. Mark the point of connection where the power supply wire and the heating mat heating wire connect. This connection has to be hidden inside the blind concrete or the levelling mortar. If you're going to use a thermostat with a floor-temperature sensor, mark the position of the sensor halfway between 2 heating wires, about 25cm from the wall (but inside the heated area) as close to the thermostat as possible.

    6. Prepare the placement of the sensor.
If you're going to use a thermostat with a floor-temperature sensor, you should carve a place for the wireway in the floor and the wall. Put a wireway of appropriate size in the groove. The wireway should go from the thermostat to the sensor with a minimum distance of 25cm from the wall towards the middle of the floor.

    7. Prepare the surface of the floor.
Clean the floor carefully, remove gravel, dust and shavings that could damage the heating mat. Make sure there are no sharp edges.

    8. Measure the resistance
Measure the resistance of the heating mat and compare it to the value given in the manual provided for the product. Note the measurements on the warranty card. Check the measurement several times during each of the stages of installation and document these on the warranty card because you will need this for the warranty.

    9. Lay the heating mat
There's an adhesive layer on the bottom of the heating mat that prevents it from shifting during installation. Begin placement of the heating mat at the points of connection and the sensors. Unwind the roll for the whole room leaving the previously marked places free.
When you reach the opposite wall, cut the net, turn the roll and keep on unwinding in the direction desired. NEVER cut or shorten the heating wire! Don't step on the heating mat.
When you reach obstacles in the room (toilet, wash basin, furniture etc..), carefully take a little heating wire off the net and bypass the obstacle with the heating wire.
Make sure to take a picture of the placed heating mat before the underlay or floor is put on it.

    10. Another measurement check
Measure the appropriate resistances again and document the measurement values in the warranty card.

The process of installing the heating mat:

Look at how incredibly fast and simple it is to do the 3 main steps.
Installation of heating mat step 1
    Laying the heating mat
Installation of heating mat step 2
    Apply the tile adhesive
Installation of heating mat step 3
    Laying the tile or stone
